He found her curled in a corner reading. Bending, he uptipped her book and gave his widest big eye. Then he stood, jerked a thumb back over one shoulder and pantomimed swerving a steering wheel. Joyously she leapt to her feet and giddy-upped the stairs, skillfully spurring an imaginary hobby horse through treacherous debris.
